COMPLETE ESSENTIAL TOUR OF ASMARA

Some of you might remember the old Havannah from back in the nineties when tourism was still undeveloped. A beautiful place full of architectural wonders, long lanes with palm trees, great bars and a rich culture and friendly locals. Asmara is one of those places: an intact historical city center rich in colonial architecture which is in perfect condition, long palm tree lanes, stylish coffee bars, old cars passing by, a great vibe and welcoming locals. Asmara had huge projects going on back in the thirties when the Italians were constructing one architectural pearl after the other. When they left, the Eritreans kept all these buildings and streets in perfect condition. There aren’t a lot of capitals as clean and well-kept as Asmara.

Asmara is a hidden pearl and one of the biggest secrets in all of Africa. Because of its tough visa policy it has received very few travelers which means the whole country is still unspoilt and locals are genuinely interested in interacting with tourists. One of the advantages of the tough government control is actually that we can keep this authentic vibe and not have it spoiled by mass tourism and enterprises ruining the country’s charm.

We’ll start our day early in the morning with a coffee in one of the city’s most stylish coffee bars to have our shot of caffeine and will then head to the market. Our local guide will then show you around in English or Italian explaining to you all about the fruits, vegetables, fish, spices and other goods which can be found on the market. We’ll then continue our way showing you the tank graveyard where we can find all sorts of vehicles and machinery left from the Eritrean-Ethiopian war, local mosques and churches. We’ll make sure you’ll see the architectural highlights of the city as well and will enter the old Fiat building and will end our day at the bowling alley, where an interesting surprise is waiting for you, you’ll see!
